I’m not sure why my baby isn’t sleeping at the moment. Every time she falls asleep she wakes back up. Her nap today has consisted of about 5 naps of 5-10 minutes each. I don’t know. This has been happening a lot the last couple of days. I just have to wait for her to really wear herself out to sleep, I guess.

Dealing with 6 overdraft fees right now in our bank account. Two days ago the bank’s website was down for maintenance so I didn’t get to check things. I didn’t realize my husband had withdrew the money he needed to pay his traffic ticket. I suggested it but he never told me he did. For some dumb reason I just assumed it was still in there and that we would pay it whenever. There were a few things I needed to pick up (mostly food for the apartment) and so I figured I would go ahead and do that. I also got us a redbox to watch, and ice cream to go with it since it’s been a while. We ended up having 6 overdraft charges due to my transactions that barely even totalled over $10. It’s bullshit. But I guess that’s what I get for assuming the money was there and for not using cash for my transactions. If I’d only checked the ATM first none of this would’ve happened. It’s shit, but i’m only human.
So now the money we were going to use to pay his ticket is going towards paying our overdraft fees. We have another month to pay it thankfully. We’ll just have to be past due on something until the end of January when we’ll have extra money thanks to our pell grants. I can’t wait till then, and I especially can’t wait for our tax returns.

When I woke up this morning I found a large pile of cat vomit under my desk. When I went to clean it up I discovered a huge tapeworm right beside it. At first I had no idea what it was, but I knew it wasn’t good.
I called my husband and he wasn’t happy at all. We’re supporting ourselves just fine right now but there isn’t a whole lot extra, not even for groceries. We aren’t able to afford to get our cat treated. When we took him in off the street, it never occurred to me the problems we might have with him. It turns out we just can’t afford him. It’s about $150 just to get him the rest of his shots and declawed. Adding the exam and treatment on top of that would bring that to about $250. There’s just no way we can do it.
We’re having him fixed and getting his rabies shot Wednesday morning. After that though we’ll have to put him back outside. Hopefully he’ll stick around. We’ll still feed him but that’s all we can do. We still have another cat who needs shots and to be declawed. I feel so bad, but Gabe’s right. It’s just not practical. He wishes he’d brought up all the problems a stray can have when we got him, but he didn’t know I had no experience with strays. I’ve never had a cat problem in my life. It just didn’t occur to me.
He’s such a sweetheart, but we weren’t able to find someone to adopt him. And especially now there’s no way knowing he has tapeworms and who knows what else.

In the suit, filed today in federal court in Boston, SLDN is challenging the Defense of Marriage Act as well as provisions in federal code that define “spouse” to the exclusion of married gay couples. Gay service members and their families are currently denied equal access to benefits such as medical care, housing, child care, and military identification cards.

What are you looking forward to most about being a mother?
The whole experience. I’ve always wanted to be a mom, I just didn’t expect it so early. Plans were definitely to wait till after college.

Who will be in the delivery room with you?
It’ll just be Gabriel, and of course, the doctor and nurses. We want it to be a personal experience between us and our baby. I know Gabriel will be able to support me and keep me calm better than anyone else. I love my mom but I know she would most likely drive me nuts if she were there.

Do you plan on breastfeeding?
Absolutely. It’s by far so much better for the baby, not too mention it’s a great bonding experience. I’m not deluded into thinking it won’t be a struggle at first, but I know that just because it’s natural doesn’t mean it comes naturally. That’s why I have books on the subject. Also i’m taking a breastfeeding class come December and I’ll also get help from the hospital’s lactation consultant if I have problems. I want to do whatever I can to ensure this is possible for us.

Who will help you most when your baby is here?
I would have to say the order would go Gabriel, his mom, then my mom.
Also, I skipped a question because it was a repeat, so now i’ll end on 19.

Parenting tips you’ve learned.
I think the best parenting tip I know is to be accepting of your child no matter who they become, rather than trying to mold them into what you want them to be.
Also, for potty training, you can tape paper to the back of the toilet and let them draw.
Another tip, children need you to talk to them about things, not just hear “Because I said so” all the time.
